This extra-ridiculous CD release from Negativland’s weekly radio show, Over The Edge, is ALL MUSIC, ALL MUSIC, ALL MUSIC, and it’s called "Sex Dirt." Edited from three OTE shows broadcast between ’93 and ’95, sixteen improvised Sex Dirt songs were instrumentally jerked off by Negativland with prickly, extra-sensual vocals by The Weatherman, and mixed with gritty tapes galore from nostalgic educational films on sex and cleanliness. Considerably different from other OTE CD releases, "Sex Dirt" tries and fails to keep your toes tapping and your glands secreting all the way through a whole bunch of discreet, upbeat pseudo-ditties performed live and erect. The Weatherman actually sings as only he could (or would), while Negativland and several guest musicians provide sample-laden improvisations with guitars, bass, synthesizers, grand piano, percussion, and a whole array of manipulated tape machines, turntables, and CD players. The only subjects throughout this entire release are SEX and DIRT, and how they propagate in the bacteria-filled life and scrubbed down mind of that stunning scum stud, The Weatherman. The song titles are really stacked: Shake Your Pants, Pump Gag, Lick The Crack, Penis And Sperm, Too Much Spurt, and more. Squeaking clean past FCC sanitary guidelines under cover of technical terminology, the suggestively sticky topic of Sex Dirt is handled with good taste and casual disrespect, while music for the fun of it comes to the fore, skin and all.
