Hear this album correctly for the first time ever.

Carefully remastered, this reissue is created from the long thought lost original 7.5ips stereo master tapes that were found buried in our archives after the death of Negativland member Don Joyce.

We barely knew what we were doing back in 1980 when we first mastered this thing, so the record now sounds like many coats of paint have been stripped away, and it has a wider stereo image.

Like all past versions of this album on vinyl and CD, each cover is 100% one-of-a-kind, handmade by Negativland from original pictures cut out of late 50/early 60s homemaking and home improvement magazines, and wallpaper samples cut out from 70s/80s wallpaper sample books. No two front or back covers are alike. Scroll down to see the first 250 covers.

Hand numbered and hand stamped in a hidden spot (hint: lift the front flap), this comes in a heavy duty 5 mil crystal clear protective sleeve.

From 1980 to about 1990 we made 9000 of these on vinyl, and from the early 90s until 2000 we made 6000 as a CD, each cover unique. This reissue will bring the total number of vinyl copies to 10,000.

Limited to 1000 copies.
Once these are gone, that’s it.

Some of the images and wallpaper used to make the album covers were cut out and trimmed by founding member Richard Lyons, many while he was in hospice with nodular melanoma.

A CD!

Hopefully you still have a CD player somewhere! When this album was first made (long before CD's and streaming), we decided that there would never be a standard mass produced version for sale, and that the only way it would ever be available as a physical object for sale would be with one-of-a-kind covers. When we made a CD version in the 1990s, that, too, had handmade one-of-a-kind covers. All these decades later later we are not going to second guess our original concept, so this remastered "mass produced" CD version is intended as a bonus that only comes with the vinyl (so you can have your own digital version in addition to the LP version). It will not be for sale separately.

TRACK BY TRACK BREAKDOWN!

Comes with a 40-page 11” x 11” magazine that includes deep dive interviews with founding Negativland members Mark Hosler and David Wills about the origins of the group and the making of the album. From the depths of their fading memories, this includes an excruciatingly detailed track-by-track breakdown of the entire album, and a reproduction of a hand written 1980 letter from Richard about the making of the album.

HOW WE MET!

Reproduction of the ridiculous twelve page Audience Studies Incorporated questionnaire/script that Mark, David and Richard were using the week they first met.

POPPY SEED TAPE!

An mp3 of the original Poppy Seed Tape that was transcribed to create the inner sleeve.

AN UNRELEASED TRACK!

Some never before heard sounds from 1980. Credits for this track: David Wills - synthesizer, Mark Hosler - organ sounds, Richard Lyons - saxophone, Dave Carden - voice.

NEW LABEL!

A second color has been added to the LP label art. Fancy!

COFFEE CAKE!

The original crudely printed Coffee Toffee Torte recipe insert (along with the Poppy Seed conversation) is now a full-color reproduction of the original stained recipe itself, and is on a heavy weight inner sleeve instead of an 8.5 x 11 insert.

THE QUESTION WE THINK EVERYONE IS GOING TO BE ASKING US

“Can I pick out the cover I want?”

We tried (and tried), but we could not figure out a way to make that practically or affordably work. Rest assured that expert calloused hands at Seeland Records Mail Order HQ will lovingly pick out a handmade cover just for you! We’ll slowly be posting all 1000 front and back cover images from this reissue to www.negativland.com so you can eventually enjoy them all. The first batch of ___ are below.

THE PRICE

$9,999.00

Yeah, it’s kinda high. The amount of time, effort and money it’s taken us to make this last ever batch of 1000 one-of-a kind works of art is beyond insane, and was a fourteen year long effort interrupted by various members dying or nearly dying. You’ll be a “mini-patron-of-the-arts” in your support of Negativland if you buy it. THANK YOU!

OKAY, BUT I CAN'T AFFORD THE VINYL AND YOU ARE NOT SELLING THE CD AND I STILL WANT TO HEAR WHAT THIS VERSION SOUNDS LIKE

We've heard this concern from enough of our fans and supporters that we are making the audio available on Bandcamp for $10.

WILL IT BE STREAMING?

Once the vinyl sells out, we'll add the album to all the usual criminal cabal streaming services. (And just a reminder - if you listen to music via any streaming subscription service, the artists you listen to and enjoy are paid almost nothing. It truly is a criminal cabal).
